Watchman - Zainab Burhan

Artist statement:
My paintings are influenced by the visuals I experience on a daily basis, of people, places and
faces. I have an inclination to focus on the features of my subjects, I feel their faces show their
experiences, chronicling their life in each and every wrinkle, crease and groove. I choose colors
that I feel represent them the best, portraying their raw and brutal personalities as I perceive
them. I sometimes unintentionally portray my subjects with a stylized exaggeration, to invite
the viewer to experience my subjects through my lens. My color palette is deeply rooted in
expressionism, with saturated colors that reflect my emotional responses to the world around
me.

Biography:

Zainab Burhan is a multidisciplinary artist from Lahore. Her work is inspired by
the untold stories of the people, places, and faces that surround us. She completed her
undergraduate in Fine Arts from Kinnaird College for Women in 2022 and her post graduate in
Visual arts from National College of Arts in 2025. She has displayed her work in a number of
galleries across Pakistan.
