ORIGINAL ARTWORKS FOR SALE AT OUR ONE-OF-A-KIND DIGITAL ART SHOP

Centring our contribution to contemporary arts and art education, we have expanded our existingrepertoire and operations through the expansion of our much anticipated Art Shop. The Art Shop, initially established in 2015, is an imaginative endeavour of our acclaimed Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr.Murtaza Jafri. The creation of this one-of-a-kind digital marketplace is the outcome of Dr.Jafri's continued commitment to fostering creativity, advancing intercultural understanding, andensuring the accessibility of art to all. In an attempt to broaden our nodes of engagement and deepen the appreciation of art by bringing emerging artists from our student body to the fore, the Art Shop will provide a significant intersection for widening our repository of connections by inviting transcultural/global engagement. Additionally, as our students collectively constitute a rich mixture of diverse regional and socio economic backgrounds, they will be afforded a confluence of exciting opportunities, including financial empowerment and the mitigation of possible financial stresses. The revenue thus earned from these sales will go towards nurturing the bright futures of our students.

HISTORY AND INCEPTION

With an institutional memory spanning one hundred and fifty years, the National College of Arts possesses a distinctive selfhood centred on stimulating, nurturing, and facilitating creativity. On the various routes of creative exploration of the learners' journey at NCA, the Gallery serves to cultivate opportunities for critical introspection within the students, faculty, and exhibiting and visiting artists. The Zahoor ul Akhlaq Gallery, named after Professor and an acclaimed eminent artist Zahoor ul Akhlaq, is located within the National College of Arts (NCA). Commonly referred to as the ‘NCA Gallery,’ it is housed in the Kipling Block, the oldest part of NCA’s historic structure, which was originally built in 1881 as part of the Mayo School of Art. The Gallery was established in 1993, and its halls were formerly used as Fine Arts studios, where some of the finest artists and practitioners once gave their idea a flight. The Gallery’s mission remains to expose students to exceptional Pakistani and international art while encouraging their ability to evaluate works critically and cultivate a habit of frequenting art exhibitions. Besides Zahoor ul Akhlaq Gallery’s collaborations with various local and international artists and organisations, it is pivotal in organising a variety of activities such as artist talks, workshops, summer camps, awareness campaigns, and a Gallery internship program.
